To make it brief, I'm an old camper nobody knows anymore. I started going to NBTSC in '96, the first year it happened, and went to every session through '99, and then once in '01. I still hang out on IRC a lot and keep in touch with a fair number of NBTSC alumni. Reply
When I was 18, rather than normal college, I went to a massage school, and spent several years trying to work professionally as a massage therapist. I love the work itself, but several aspects of the economics of it as a profession were both unworkable, and uncomfortable for me. Also, I wanted to go deeper into healing work, and I knew that would involve jumping through some academic hoops, as well as having a real income with location and schedule flexibility. Thus... Reply
As of July 2006, I'm 24, and just finished up my first year at community college in Prescott Arizona. I've got most of my innane pre- and co- requisit classes out of the way now, and will be starting in the nursing program here in the fall. I'll be here for another two years, and then will most likely go back to Philadelphia (were I grew up) for another two years. I don't want to settle in Philly, but I do want to study at my old Tai Chi studio, study with a Cranial Osteopath there, know my nephews while their still little, have time with my grandparents while they're still with us, and for Marina and my family to get to know each other better. My main push for going to Philly is the Osteopath, who is teaching a two year course covering basically all the bodywork of Osteopathic medicine, but without the 8 years of med school. Also, he's focussing on light-touch and cranial work, which A. apeals to me, and B. fits into my scope of practice. My plan is to take his course as well as the Craniosacral courses from the Upledger Institute, which are very similar (they're durrived from Cranial Osteopathy, but focus more on emotional stuff and don't cover the physical in as much depth, so they seem like a good combination). After I'm done in Philly, the plan as it stand now is to move back to Portland, OR, in 2010 and put down some roots. Making babies and raising them with a community of other folks with similiar kid-raising-philosophy will probably be the top priority then, followed by Nursing as I need to for finances, getting back into Bodywork, teaching Tai Chi, attending Acupuncture school, farthering my studies into health and healing in other areas, owning my own home so that I can geek over green construction for a while and put my money where my mouth is in terms of sustainability, making music, and living a happy, full, vibrant, relaxed life.
