For yet more help for all you new people, I have created a page called LearningWiki because all of us who had trouble figuring it out when we were new would like to offer you advice on how to most easily learn it. Wiki is amazing, it is worth all the trouble to learn it. Reply

nothing rhymes with monospacingnow that line is worth erasing.
Bold, italic, underline — simple. /Bold Italic/, _Italic Underline_ — Not so easy, but still not bad. Monospace can be done too. Reply
Small text is good for formulae and things similar, like W3C Reply
For a NewPage — just RunTheWordsTogether, then click the question mark after the page and write. Reply
AReallyTrulyNewWikiWord will appear like this. (Please leave this one as an example — someone ruined the last two, so I changed it) To create the page you would click on the little question mark (?) following the Page name. Reply
If you're linking to other things, or want it to appear a bit differently, do it like you would cite a URL on paper — put the URL in angle brackets after the title or link text, like this: Reply
ReplyIf you're not using a proper name (you know, capitalized), then put it in quotes. Reply
Don't indent paragraphs — use a blank line between instead. Reply
Linking to another wiki is easy — Take a look at the FrontPage on MeatBall. Reply
You can paste emails like this: Reply
| From: | So-and-so |

| To: | Them and all |

WinstonWLumpkinsIV You can indent like this: Reply

As is this. It's good for replying to things, and quoting things. Reply
A caveat for you macintosh-using poetry writers: If you paste into wiki from certain programs, using certain browsers, and what you paste has apostrophes or quotes in it, you'll break the page. Reply
The problem comes from the fact that Macs use an odd character for those, and it doesn't get converted when you post like it should. Reply
You can put music notation in wiki by putting in the magic words \score { \relative
before and } }
after (each on their own line), and notes inbetween: Reply

There's a bunch of other things on wiki, but unlike how to do simple things, they're not hard and fast rules. However, in general: To get a conversation going, start it. Only pages with content will grab someone's interest enough to garner a post. Saying something insightful or controversial will get things rolling, while being inane or just hoping someone else will start things won't. Reply
Pages can't be deleted, so watch your spelling and think about what you do. That's good advice anyway, so perhaps having something to think about is a good thing. Reply
Mind your manners — the world's watching, and you're on candid camera. Reply
Remember, those are real people out there. If they're proud enough of what they said to sign their name, it probably deserves some respect. Reply
Page names have a meaning. On the page, the words get split at the capital letters, so it's best to use whole words in names, and not just Ran Dom Ly Cap I T al Iz E things. Think about how the page will be seen, and don't just stuff it into your sentence thoughtlessly. Reply
You might also want to think about HowToInspireDiscussion. Reply
To make a note in the revision list for a page, when you edit, put your note in the Note
box down at the bottom of the edit screen. Reply
If you have problems posting to wiki, or just don't have time, or you want to post from your cellphone, you can post to any of the long-list-of-post pages like CheckIn or Don'tQuoteThat by sending email to wiki+PageName at nbtscdotorg. Mind your capitals. You'll get an email if the program realized it didn't work. Reply
1. Go to the page to be archived.
2. Click the Add tag
button at the bottom of the page.
3. Type in something like Archive01
(first check what archives already exist)
4. Click the Add tag
button.
Now you've tagged that particular version of that particular wiki page with it's own name. You can edit the page, and delete all the extranious or old content you want, and anyone who wants to see it can click the Archives
button at the bottom of the page, which will show a list of all the versions of the page that were given a tag
(rather than looking in revisions
and sifting through all the versions of the page till they figure out which one has the old content). Reply
Note: You can add a tag to any revision of a page, not just the current one. That means, if someone made an archive of a page a long time ago before you could tag pages, you could go back now, hopefully find that they noted which version the archive was somewhere, like in the A short note
box, which displays in the revisions
list, and when you find the last version of the page with the old content, you could add a tag to it. Which of course means if you forget to add the tag first, and you edit the content and then you're like awe damn, I forgot to tag that
, it doesn't matter, you can go back and tag the version right before your changes. Reply
This is pretty straightforward, and the archives are easy to find, but if you want to note at the top of the page that you archived it, as to not get histerical whining from people who haven't read this page, do it like this: "Archive01 created 6-9-03." (That's a pipelink, you can see where it goes by hovering your cursor over the link and looking at the bottom status bar on (most) browser Reply
