—Anna F. I'd have to say that smell seems to be one of my least prominent senses. I often associate smell with nauseau and fear and other unpleasent things—which might explain things. However, the smells that I love, often make my day. Reply
PS — I read that smell is the one thing (sense) that provokes the most memories/feelings out of people. It's so true. Reply
Wow, Bean, nearly the same as I. Reply
I love the smell of rain on sweet field grasses most of all. Then comes the smell of the fungus in the forest rotting away the detrius and turning it into soil. Rich moist soil, freshly turned is beautiful, too. Pu-ergh tea is a delightful scent — it smells of earth, too. Maybe I like these smells because I'm the ungrounded sort, always looking for a connection to the earth? Reply
I love the smell of granite, and of lichen on rocks. Moss on pine-needles, and the smell of fir trees. I love the smell of clean, dry humans. Mint, sage, rosemary, lavender, cumin. fennel, coriander and all the other spices. Reply
Roasted peppers evoke so many memories of my childhood — riding with my father down the boulevard past the Mexican vendors who would roast a hundred bushels of peppers at once, filling the entire intersection and parking lot where they worked with the aroma; the smell of meals being made at home on my favorite gas stove. The smell of yerba maté reminds me of my father. Its smell permeating wool makes me think of my grandfather and all my Argentine relatives, that distinct Argentina smell is old leather, wool, and yerba maté, melded together and rubbed into everything so that it's not distinguishable anymore. Reply
Wet pavement. Mud. Wet grass. Hot clothes coming out of the dryer. Sun-dried sheets and pillowcases. Pizza. Reply

My favorite smells are Reply

The best manufactured smells: CK One perfume and Old Spice Red Zone Sport Deoderant. I wear that deoderant once in a while. I like it. Reply
The best culinary smells: Freshly baked bread, basil, fresh juicy peaches Reply
The best nature smells: Lavender, the ocean off the coast of New Hampshire/Maine, the stark clean smell after a fresh snow before the cars muck it all up, patchouli Reply
Miscellaneous smells: gasoline, wool sweaters (as long as that kinda oily smell isn't too overpowering), fresh laundry, pleasantly sweaty boys. Also, you know how people have natural smells that you can recognize even when they don't have perfume or anything on? My mom wears nice perfume, but she also has a really nice parental kind of natural smell. -eira, who's very sensitive to smell Reply
