I'm part of a peace organization that's looking for more members for it's youth branch. It's called Servas, and in general, it's a way for travelers across the globe to connect with families willing to meet them, mostly through homestays. If this sounds nifty, check out www.servas.org. If you're a US citizen and you think being part of a youth committee sounds good, send an email to heatherjeanmason at gmaildotcom . Reply
I need to talk to people who were in the musical project in session 2 of camp 2009 and Allen. I need help making out what's being said in Allen's video, and also I need to check with them or their representative or spokesperson if it's okay to post the video on YouTube with Korean subtitles and show that to some other people. -Jill Lee Reply
Heya kids.
I don't know if this is true for all of you, but on my why I love you
(both of them) page show changes
does nothing.
I'm pretty sure this is true for a lot more people then just me, so if you'd leave a note about the edit just with the same of the person(s) you loved upon, then those of us who can't see the changes can look in the revisions and see who and so on so forth.
Soyeah. If you guys would do that, that'd be most wonderfuls. Thanks much!

My camp intention in 2008 was to direct an unschooling conference. So that's exactly what I've been taking on since then! It's called The Autodidact Symposium: a gathering for self-directed learners.
Similar to NBTSC, its main focus is the young adult and transitioning years of unschooling— offering mentorship (during AND after the conference!), workshops, presentations, games, and dancing. At the same time it's similar to your average unschooling conference in that it focusses on the parenting and family aspects of unschooling, which is something I'm personally passionate about, as well. It's scheduled for March 12-14 of 2010 in Columbia, SC. We have presenters and guests such as: Blake Boles, Evan Wright, Brenna McBroom, Amy Childs, Wes Beach, and Sean Ritchey, to name a few! Many workshops on various topics, a HUGE game night, a four hour dance (my favorite!), a post symposium picnic in the park, and so much more! Reply
The Symposium offers mentorship, inspiration and support to passionate young people, while also informing novice unschoolers about the movement and bringing like-minded families and friends together for a weekend of fun, excitement, friendship, learning, and growth.

Feel free to email me with any questions, and check out the website for all the information! It's constantly being updated, so check back often! http://theautodidactsymposium.com/home.htm Reply

So, I was sitting around today, when it occured to me that camp is absolutely full of people involved in theatre. So I decided that a camper-made movie was definitely the way to go. Reply
Yes, that was the first thing I thought of. Reply
Anyway, I figured it would make a cool Session Two project if that could be managed, or just something to do all week first session. If anyone is interested (screenwriters, actors, technical people) maybe we could talk about it. If you're going to be at camp next year and you'd like to be involved in a camper movie, contact me on Facebook, Myspace, or through email at obsidian_witch at hotmaildotcom. Preferably Facebook or email, I don't check my Myspace a lot. Even if you don't have a lot (or even any) experience working in theatre, contact me anyway. We'd need a lot of different people to do this. Thanks! Reply

- I would love to do this. I'd talk to Grace, because there's the new camp dates and everything is kind of mixed up. I don't know if projects will be happening next year in the first place. And since trying new things out seems to be the theme, maybe Grace will have some special way to make it work! —Lani
Anyone interested in biking from Pdx to Eugene for 1st session, '09? Anna and maybe her housemate/maybe Zena will be biking to Eugene from Portland, taking two nights and three days to arrive in Eugene the evening before camp. We'll be taking our time and looking to go about 40-50 miles/day. e-mail annafinklestein at yahoo dot com if you're interested! Reply
Even if you're not going to camp this year, your input on what CampIs would be greatly appreciated! Reply
The FallRiverCamperHouse is looking for a roomie that can move in sometime this summer (July or August of '09). Take a look at the page and let Cassia, Zephyr, or Kitty know if you are interested! Reply
This is a bit of a long shot, but hey, why not... I'm looking for somewhere to live in the Northampton/Amherst, Massachusetts area this summer and I'd love to have some unschooler-ish roommates/housemates! If you (or a friend of a significant other's cousin, etc) needs a roommate, please email me, jaykayebee at gmaildotcom. Thanks! —Julia (p.s.: shout-out to Mike, whose contact info I have lost.) Reply
The Nook, Zena, Jane and now Emily G, needs another roomate! Travis is moving out, and Emmie will be soon. Idealy, we are looking for someone who could move in April or May. The rent would be $305, plus utilities. The Nook is in NorthEast Portland, right across the street from SCRAP artist's reuse center, Irving Park, near Alberta Arts district, Missisipi Music and Arts district, a few blocks away from the Winch (another camper house), and right on the bus line to get to downtown and Hawthorne. Wholefoods, Planned Parenthood, and a postoffice are all a ten minute walk away. Send us an e-mail at emmieharcourt at yahoo dot come. Reply
does anyone live in or near Boston, and can put me up on the 32st of this Moth and 1st of April? I would appreciate it, I'm in between places then, with no Idea where I might be staying, its getting a little teeny bit stressful... ~WinstonWLumpkinsIV Reply

- I would guess that Cassia and Zephyr might have room, but then, I probably shouldn't be volunteer them. Oops. Anyway, they live in the Boston area. —Lani

- I would have offered up our house as a place to stay, but Kitty will have just been here for a really long time, and I don't want to ask my parents to put someone else up. There are a ton of other people who live near Boston, though, so you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding someplace to stay. —Cassia

Hi all. This is Jasmine (staffer) and I have a question. So my younger brother will be coming to NBTSC 1st session this year, for the first time ever. He's coming to camp via train (probably) from Seattle, he lives on Bainbridge Island. I'm wondering if there are any campers coming from this area who he could hook up to travel with? He'll be 14 in May, super cool, friendly and has a super sense of humor. Email me at jasmine.sheldonatgmail.com if the above applies for you and sounds interesting. Cheers. Reply
I just registered for NBTSC 2009. My forms are going in the mail on Monday. This year they are only accepting 40 campers for between sessions at Camp Myrtlewood, so tweeners will want to register soon because those spots WILL fill up. Reply
Hey everybody I'm very new to this (so please excuse any mistakes I make) But I had this idea that I wanted to share with you. So hear goes. You see I'm 17 and I live up in Maine so I've been to the east coast sessions 07 and 08. But after experiencing that first session of camp I've really wanted to get to the Oregon sessions To meat all the wonderful that I know must be there as well and I've always loved traveling, so I thought a road trip would be awesome. But being the poor farm girl that I am I don't have much in the way for money so I thought it would be cool to talk to some of the other campers and see if they would like to take a road trip with me. And a lot of them were really interested. I don't know quite yet how many of them are going to stay interested, now that there are 2 sessions for east coast.... So if anybody needs a ride to camp we could probably pick you up if it not to far out of are way (like in Florida or something)and your willing to pitch in a little gas money. Anyway the main reason I'm on here is because I was hoping to find a bunch of unschooler friendly type people willing to let us sleep on their couches/lawns (After talking to Truff/Alex one of the councilors at camp (who most of you guys probably know) he recommended you guys) because were going to need somewhere to sleep. If your willing to feed us I don't yet know how much money we'll have but we'll be more then happy to help out with any odd jobs you might need done. So yea if you could help us out that would be great! You can contact me at kittykatkelsey at yahoodotcom Thank You Very Much. -KelseyA Reply

So, I'm thinking about trying to launch some sort of online magazine for current and former home-/unschoolers. I know the concept of an unschooling magazine has been brought up at least a couple times in the past, but I don't think it ever came to fruition. I know Newt and I were interested in the idea a couple years ago, but ended up dropping it because we were both too busy. Anyway, it's something I would be interested in trying, and if anyone else wants to help out, either with organizing or contributing or just providing suggestions, definitely give me a shout. I'm going to be in Mexico until Januaryish, so I probably won't get started in earnest until then, but I'll be making some designs in the meantime and I'd love your assistance/input. —Betsy (East Coast 03/04/05) betsyarant at gmaildotcom Reply

Its Jane, girl with the big purple coat and the trash jewlery, from session one last year. I live in San Diego and I just got into Portland today and I am going to be here up until camp. I am doing a precollege visual art portfolio program at PNCA during the week and staying with my friend Jessanne from Colororado and her uncle in his house near Alberta st. If any Portlanders or campers in the area want to hang out that would be awesome. Im going to be more mobile soon; Im figureing out the bus system and I am going to hop on on a line downtown in the next day or so. Also, I am looking for a simple bike for the summer, preferrably less than $100 if anyone has one they would like to get rid of. Jessanne is very cool and unschooly although she is still foced to be in high school. We can give you artwork (how about a stencil portrait?) in return for a information about where to find good local live music, a tour of downtown, etc. Let me know! Reply

DanDy here, the guy who goes around shushing people, and taking pictures. If you live on the west coast, you have an amazing opportunity to see a bunch of awesome folk bands serenade you, possibly in the very town in which you reside, if not somewhere nearby. Ursula, a great, dark folk/punk band formally from Winnipeg, is embarking on a west coast tour, starting on July 11th in Bellingham, WA, and going all the way to the Bay Area. http://www.myspace.com/ursulaofthesea will tell you where and when exactly all this awesomeness will be taking place. And, if that wasn't enough, those of you who are fans of me, will be delighted to hear that I will be sharing driving duties with Ursula, and traveling with them for their entire tour. They're great folks who play great music, and you're great folks who probably like great music, and I would love to see as many of you as possible at these shows! So, look up the one nearest you, listen to their music, tell your friends, and come on down! Yah! -DanDy Reply

A while ago a like minded friend and I spent a weekend developing zombie-servival plans. Reply
Being obsessed as I am, I have a thorough plan: my survivor group will be broken up into Alpha and Bravo teams, Bravo being non-combatiants, and Alpha being the combat squad. Alpha team will be comprised of fireteam One (best fighters/moral/skills, offensive combat and recon unit) and Two. (defensive unit attached to Bravo team) Reply
One theoretical question that was asked was 'of all the people you know, who would you want to be in your group of survivors, distance not being an issue.
