So you want to learn how to do something, if it be dance, bake bread, fix a car, start a 'zine, become a hit man, start a cult, make knives, start a business, make a CD of your music... Whatever it is, there are all kinds of ways to learn more about any topic.
We, as unschoolers, have a vast number of resources that we have used. But say that Bob over there wants to learn more about what you are into. Wouldn't you love to find out how he learned? What kind of people he talked to, what books were read, web pages that had good info, mentors, work shops you went to, places that have work shops that you liked.
Whatever it was that gave you the information, that it took to get you started in what you are now passionate at. Let us know! Reply

- Breetel! A great way to learn to bellydance if there are no other bellydancers in your area is through instructional videos. Some of them really really suck, but there are plenty of great ones out there. I was lucky enough to find lots of bellydancers in my area and haven't really used videos much, but if you're interested, I could help you find a good one. there is no substitue for learning from other dancers, but you could get a good start on the basics. I also have a fairly large collection of music, so I can copy some and send it to you if you want. Do you prefer really earthy instrumental tribal-y stuff, or lighter floaty elegant cabaret music? I have both, and a few compilation CD's from past shows that have a lot of variety. Let me know if you are interested <MellowshipSlink at csdotcom>. Have fun! Love, James

- I know HOW TO: play the violin (including through to solo prep and performance...and advanced studies in general~~just ask me!); keep lengthy journal entries; dance and perform in Modern, ballet, and some Jazz style; live at home after age 18; be part of close interpersonal relationships with family/members of the same house; lighten up; learn to live more spontaneously instead of controlling everything in my human experience (because I can't, and it's easier now to admit that); refrain and abstain from college; live celibately; and more along the same lines of innerly personal rather than totally factual and easy to explain. And I know /about/: vitamins, realer nutrition, and natural foods; holistic or biological dentistry and the field, mercury-freeing dental revision programs and followup, and at-home dental treating(i.e. not even fillings or conventional work done); anatomy/physiology and the extensive or long-term treating of athletic and overuse injuries; sexual anatomy, menstruation; biology, not even sure what level~~but some concepts more than the formal phrases or terms; communal living (I'm learning); Myers-Briggs personality types & personality analyzing and catagorizing; music; the Indigo Girls; and other stuff.
- I would like to LEARN about: returning to a musical intrument after injury and healing; forming bands and musical groups; how to speak more Spanish; how to build a webpage with minimal stress and lots of cool content (*grin*); the Bible and true Christian beliefs (others' liberal compassionate views that is, and more about it; I am a Christian and do know a lot about the Bible and faith already); and probably more. :)

I'd also like to learn about theater makeup—specifically for movies. (So that would be movie makeup
I guess...!) I am really interested in this~~for all aspects of stage and performance. Reply
And: learn (or start) Hebrew, Latin, and Greek; how to become spiritually more open, daily-disiplined, or close to God; medicine without being brainwashed at regular medical school (anyone got any parents who are medical and have any old textbooks..?!?); how to know what your proper role at camp might be, if any, or whether and when to go back to camp (ha ha ha); how to deal with occasional anger or inward struggles at a parent who is totally justified, seemingly, in sies own struggles and time-intensive peronsal journies or revelations or needs, but still rubs up, as normally, against oneself with a different personality than your own what do you do about the personality differences that normally would already be their own thing, but in the intenser situation begin to get in the way or complicate your feelings??? And a host more but I can't think of many right now. Oh~~how to live in the woods or a lovely, natural setting, when you can't afford such a thing, have no idea where such a one would be, and have lived most of your life smack in town on a nice, little city street. And/or where to find outdoor programs to work...like the youth national park internship ranger type things, or whateve the freak they're actually called. For now.... Reply
